Finding the way

I realise that my latest writing has seemed a little on the darker side so I wanted to bump one up that shows I’m still in a hopeful mood really … mostly 😉

Crossing the threshold

You trespass, on the edge of my borders
Tiptoe through the barricades
And hover at the frame

After patting down the dirt
Covering your tracks
In fear of being discovered

I find you, alarmed
A hare, dazed in the headlights
Frozen, but for the consistent twitch

In the distance sirens wail out a warning
The gate gapes wide in the wind
Yet still we persist

In that moment existence is shattered
I welcome the oncoming storm.

Living without passion

..

Without conflict could we still survive, would we still want to live in our ever revolving faceless world of placation? Would we miss having fire in our bellies? Miss having passion and love and anger? Without emotion are we even really living or merely existing?

If you were able to live forever without the fresh breeze on your face, or the spray of the waves of the sea falling in mists on your skin, or without ever hearing the rising call of the lark or feel the warmth on the skin of your cheek: would this be living?

Dear Mother

You fed us, clothed us, kept us warm

Held us, taught us, showed no scorn

Every day you gave your time

your life, your love, your soul, your rhyme.

You never once had idle hands

You worked two jobs to meet demands

and never once did you despair,

complain that life just wasn’t fair

The only wish you ever dreamed

was to be a mother; wife esteemed

and so you gave up all your life

for small desires, full with strife

I didn’t understand your needs

and now my heart, for you it bleeds

Your cherished girl, lost out the blue

a husbands illness moved him too

And now you live your life alone

with only me to call your own

A life confused, and filled with space

I’m sorry, I can’t take their place.

Though just because I can’t be smothered

Doesn’t mean I love you less, dear mother.

Absorption

There was, a certain art to it
The flick of your tongue, lips mouthing words
As you sentenced her to love

One cruel curl of a smirk
A dot of the I, on the notes
That she kept close by

The perfectly measured beat
Of her heart against your breath
While she held hers

Waiting for the whole world to turn.

There was a certain skill, in it all
Giving just enough – yet taking
Taking her life for your own

Prelude

Tears extended

Overlaid with betrayal

Over watched with guilt

Another tissue discarded

Scrunched and screwed

Filled with regret

The room thick with sorrow

Clogged with slow acceptance

Of wasted time, of failure

Denial cast with remorse

A double edged coin

Of a fading currency
