Dummies at dawn
There never was a bigger pair
Of idiots bunched in disrepair
Squalling tantrums, throwing toys
Is what becomes of hiring boys
To do a mans work, yes it’s true
But you didn’t want to pay, did you
All this talk of living wage
Would help you fly into a rage
Instead you think you’re rather smart
And bypassed that rule, for a start
You’d rather pay pennies for duds
Than let your bank release the goods
And while it’s good to help to train
these children shouldn’t be your main
source of employment, if you need
experience – Now take the lead
Show your team you have their back
These children can’t make up the slack

Beams blinding, bouncing
Across glossy car bonnets
Through cellophane pane
The daylight wasted
The smell of fresh paint
Cold, clean walls ready for wear
Only surface change
Changing the printer
You declare your intentions
My day gone to pot
In the chill morning air
Watching the world awaken
The trees outside hold firm
No breeze to stir them
It’s the stillness he adores
The way that life unfolds
Just for him
Enjoying that moment
Allowing himself to breathe
Before the rest wake up
The pleasant lull, waiting
Intoxicating, it’s his
That moment everyday
Just for him
Knowing this will soon end
The solitude and peace
Will be stripped from his mind
Replaced by work, but first
He turns the key and smiles
His D16 purrs her song
Just for him
“I hate endings. Just detest them. Beginnings are definitely the most exciting, middles are perplexing and endings are a disaster. . . . The temptation towards resolution, towards wrapping up the package, seems to me a terrible trap. Why not be more honest with the moment? The most authentic endings are the ones which are already revolving towards another beginning. That’s genius.” ― Sam Shepard
